Jack Russell Mix    Age: Puppy

Greeting from San Antonio, Texas. My name is Mila and I am a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier blend weighing approximately 20 pounds. Myself and my five beautiful pups were at risk of euthanasia in the city shelter when care rescue found us and saved our lives. We have been an awesome foster home while I nursed my pups and raised them. Now my pups are weaned and I've been spayed and we are already for forever homes! I am a super loving, playful and intelligent girl. I am housebroken, crate trained and walk while on a leash and love to go for car rides too. If you take a chance on me I will be the most adoring and adorable forever companion ... (Read More)you've ever had! (Less)

Jack Russell Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy was a local stray who was never claimed. He is thought to be a terrier (Rat or Jack Russell) mixed with Doxie. We aren't sure what else may be in there. His head doesn't match his body :) Buddy is only 5-6 months old and 7.5 pounds. He isn't going to be very big at all. Buddy id an energetic, loving pup. He ADORES people and will give you kisses all day if you let him. He loves to play with other dogs, but thinks he is a big dog. He needs another energetic dog to keep up with him. He really is a fun little guy. Buddy is working on house and crate training alone with his basic puppy commands/manners. He is eager to learn. Buddy is ... Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Rico! This handsome boy is Rico and he is looking for his forever home. He is a chihuahua JRT mix. Upon first meeting he can be a little shy, but once he knows you he wants to be your best friend. He is great with other dogs. He's crate trained and house broken. A home with older children would be the best because it does take him some time to warm up and young children may be too loud/crazy for him. Please fill out an application at HVARS.org

Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meatball is a 3 year old JRT/Min Pin mix who is looking for his forever home. We rescued Meatball about a year ago from an abusive hoarding situation in NYC when he was 2 years old, he had never been outside in his entire life and was confined to a small room. He is an adorable, sweet, spunky and loving boy once you get to know him. At first he is very untrustworthy of new people. It will take him a while to get to know you, but it will be worth it. Meatball is now crate trained and house trained. He is not good with cats, and he is only good with certain dogs (its either a hit or miss, but usually smaller dogs are better for him and not ... (Read More)puppies). We reccommend him not being around children because in the beginning he can be very unpredictable and we do not feel comfortable with him around young children. Meatball is very insecure, and is searching for security. He is a dog that will require a lot of love, patience and TLC. Meatball needs a dedicated owner who is willing to spend the time it takes to get to know him and not give up on him. We are looking for an adoptive home or a foster home for our little Meaty Man!     Cleo is a 10 year old pure bred Jack Russell terrier who I have had since she was six weeks old. She was born on a farm in Florida. She has been a fantastic and fun loving dog for the past 10 years. Three months ago, I had a baby and Cleo is not adjusting well to the change. She would be better suited in an environment where she doesn't feel the constant need to compete for attention. Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I'm One of the Tanner Collection! Our friends in a Tennessee shelter were bursting at the seems with dogs and begging us to visit again so no one had to die just because of overcrowding. We said we were sorry, but didn't have the room right then. We were all very happy that the next week was a wonderful adoption week and so the trip was planned! Denise and Cheryl left here at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a whirlwind trip managing to save the lives of 12 dogs, 2 adorable 5 week old shepherd pups and two gorgeous kittens! Everyone was a bit weary when they arrived here at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, but soon their confused eyes softened into a ... (Read More)look of understanding. The lucky 16 will have the last name of Tanner and we are eternally grateful to Christine, a supporter and volunteer as she sponsored this trip south. Tanner is Christine's canine companion and we are told he is very spoiled. Every time Christine goes home from volunteering she tells him how lucky he is and she says this is his way of paying it forward. The two nameless pups are Drew and Brook, named after Christine's niece and nephew. Thank you Christine! Taco was born about January 16, 2013 and will weigh about 10 lbs. He is just a cutie that has been wonderful with all of us and all the other dogs. We are not sure about house training at this time, it may need some work. Many of these small dogs benefit from having a potty floor pad handy when they need to go quickly. He is very sweet and loving seeking your lap every chance he gets. Taco isn't a yappy Chihuahua, he's just adorable and we especially love the little bit of rough coat on his chin! We sure are glad he made the trip! (Less)

My Owner Was Taken Away! Butch was born about February 23, 2009 and weighs about 28 lbs. He's been wonderful with the other dogs. We don't know a lot because his owner went to jail and his mother and sister were stopping by to take care of the dogs every day, but then they could no longer afford the utilities. We are so very glad they called us. They did not have a vehicle so we had to travel almost an hour to pick up 3 nice dogs.     Our dog has been living with us for 10 years. He is cute, lovable, and has a wonderful personality. Unfortunately, because of extreme allergies, we are have find him a new home. We are looking for someone who loves dogs. He is full of energy (not annoying... just happy) so I think he would be best with someone who can give him the attention that he needs. He gets along with other dogs, but as most dogs, he can be territorial over food, so I wouldn't recommend him to be with a young child that wouldn't know how to handle that. He is about 40 pounds, a mutt (some sort of jack russell terrier mix) dark orange coat, and he loves to be ... (Read More)outside, go for walks and hikes, but he is a great buddy to sit and watch some TV with as well. We love him so much, so if able we would love to be able to meet up with him, watch him when you are away , or just check in, that would make us so happy, but we certainly understand if that is not something you want or are comfortable with. We really just want someone who understands and is good with dogs, and most importantly a loving home. (Less)

Hello, my name is Chica. I am a very pretty one year old JRT/Chihuahua blend girl. I weigh in at around 13 pounds. I was found as a stray in Kentucky and taken to a shelter where my foster mom rescued me. I am recovering from demodex mange but don't let that frighten you because I am not contagious to people or other dogs. I am currently being treated and am fed yummy nutritious food which is helping me bounce right back. I have a little fur missing on my paws from this but I am already getting better. On a positive note, I am doing pretty well with potty training. I don't like going outside right now in the snow but I am pee pee pad ... (Read More)trained. Hopefully when I am feeling better I will just get use to going potty outside but for now I am doing well with both. I get along great with my friend Jubalee (also available for adoption) and am usually good with other dogs too but I do get jealous and can get snippy with them at times. This is something my foster mom is working on with me. I am living with a few kitties but I do not mind them. I am always getting under my foster parent's feet so I may not be best for small children or the elderly. During the day I am gated in the kitchen but my crate door is always left open so I can roam around as I want to. Just be warned that I can jump over gates so I will need a home with a tall fenced in yard. I will sleep perfectly in my crate at night but I am also very good sleeping with my foster mom in her bed. I sleep through the night and in the morning do my business right away. I am extremely sweet and just want someone to love me. I get very attached so you will have to be okay with me giving you hugs and always being on or near you. I was a stray after all so I am catching up for lost time. Chica is already spayed, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on all her shots. She has been Heart Worm tested too. Chica is good to go, set, ready and waiting. Vhica's adoption fee is only $250 and she is worth every penny of it. What more can you ask for??? Chica is being fostered in Westerlo, NY. Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Fixed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Some things truly get better as they age, and Rusty and Jillian are the perfect example of this! This sweet married couple have seen each other through the good times and bad, sickness and health, and it is very important we keep them together so they can continue to support each other through everything. Rusty and Jillian were raised and owned by a woman who did not spay or neuter her pets, so they continued to breed. She fell on hard times and found herself with 8 dogs over the age of 7, with Rusty and Jillian being the eldest of the group, so most likely the parents or grandparents of the others. Their ... (Read More)owner lost the ability to care for them and they developed skin problems due to flea infestations. Jillian lost all of the hair on her chest, belly, and legs, and Rusty lost all of the hair on his back from his should down. Two years later, these resilient dogs have come so far! Rusty has grown all of his hair back into a beautiful, luscious coat, and Jillian has grown most of her crazy and adorable wiry hair back as well! They both have special medical needs. Rusty has dry eyes, but all that requires is a few eye drops every day! Jillian has occasional seizures and is on medication to help regulate them. She also has some food allergies that contributed to the hair loss in her previous home, but she is doing great on her current diet. These two could live with cats or other dogs and would do best with teenager or adults so they can live quiet and relaxed lives. If you want to give them a loving home, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online to www.adopt-a-dog.org. (Less)

He has a nice, friendly, disposition toward everyone he has met and he's good with other dogs. Zip is good on leash and fine in the car. Why is he here? Well, the story goes that we get an early morning call from a woman that she knows a man with a dog that he doesn't want anymore and he is going to toss him out the door and hope he goes away or someone takes him. She gives us the man's name and number and we call to offer to take the dog, he's happy and invites us to visit. When we arrive he says he only took the dog in, from this ... Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lady was born about October 16, 2011 and weighs about 10 lbs. She is one incredibly gorgeous little girl. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to rescues and sends many here. This group was only marginal fearful of us, so not too bad. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth ... (Read More)where you can't see any white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases from your good care. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. So, if I've not deterred you by this, brutally honest, depressing description by now and you still feel that you want to help one of these dogs and experience the magical joy of watching one of them decide they can love a human and become a real dog or as real as they will ever become, go ahead and e mail and ask us to send you our 'Working will Mill Dog Notes' and we will be happy to do so. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take awhile.     Gideon weighs about 10 lbs. and was born November 11, 2012 and has already been shuffled around a bit. The breeder who originally had him didn't want to keep him so he was given to a lady who had adopted one of his siblings. Unfortunately, she could not keep Gideon because having 2 dogs was too much confusion for her child who has mental disabilities. So Gideon came here to Joyful Rescues. He is a cute little guy but can be nippy when he is afraid and he is more afraid of males than females. He needs a strong confident leader who will be willing to work with him and take him to training classes to help him work through his fear aggression. ...     Once again our dog population was low and we were able to make a trip south, to a high kill area, and managed to fit 37 dogs and one tiny Siamese kitten into the Yukon XL!!! Rarely is there much vet work done on the dogs we choose so we have the normal expenses of getting them ready for adoption on top of the shelter pull fees, gas, one night hotel stay and lots of coffee so a trip costs us about $800.00. (Read More)shout out of thanks! If you know any other businesses that might be willing to sponsor a southern rescue mission, please let us know. Not one dog complained about the long ride and all have settled in nicely. Many of them seemed to have understood, right away, that they were now safe in our Dog House with fresh blankets, lots of Science Diet food, automatic waterers and even toys! It gets a little confusing when getting files ready for so many, so if breed, size, age seems questionable with the photos shown, please let us know. We are doing the best we can to save as many as we can. We so appreciate your understanding and willingness to adopt a dog we know little about that would have been dead, within a few days, If they had not come here. We always test out of towners for heart worm. Ceelo Bradley was born about August 19, 2013 and weighs about 30 lbs. He is a cute little thing that is looking forward to having some fun in life. He's happy, playful and loving and good with the other dogs. He is on the shy side, probably hasn't had a very good like until now, but he will come around nicely. If there are kids they probably shouldn't be the screaming, running, kind just for his comfort. Ceelo tested heart worm postiive, has been treated and all aftercare if completed. He needs to be kept on heart worm preventative at least 6-9 months and then he should be tested again just to be sure he now tests negative. (Less)
