Would do best in a home by herself as she is protective of her owners but our trainer says she may do well with another male dog. Hello! Here is my story on Miss Riley. Riley grew up somewhere in the Raleigh area for the first 14 months of her life. I do not know where she is from, her breed, or her lifestyle prior to that. I know she is a beautiful girl, part pit bull and I think part jack russel. A man rescued her from a shelter in the end of December 2012. He kept her for approximately 3 weeks until we found her posted on Craig's List. We (my husband and I) already have a boy pit, same age as Riley. We and my boy pit met up with Riley and immediately Riley and my boy hit it off. They played so well together. Riley was severely underweight but had such a lovable ... (Read More)personality, we took her home that day. We were so excited because we found a playmate for my boy while my husband and I are at work. I took her to the vet, made sure she was up to date on all shots. She loves to play with my boy pit, she loves going on walks, and wants all the attention in the world with lots of hugs and kisses. She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. Loves kids. Here are the problems we have encountered, that unfortunately, we can not keep her because of them. Now, the man we got her from said she was house trained, crate trained, dewormed, and friendly with dogs and kids. This was inaccurate. When I took her to the vet, she had a bad case of hookworks, which we got treated. From there, she started gaining weight and is quite healthy now. She was not house trained. Several stained carpets later, she is fully house trained and can hold her bladder for hours. She was not crate trained, and literally freaked out when we had put her in a crate for a few hours, to the point where she had blood every from her nose, trying to get out of the crate. We haven't put her in a crate since and I don't think she would ever do well if attempted again. I think something from her past influenced her reaction to the crate. She is dog aggressive. For some reason, any other dog other than my boy pit, she is not friendly with. I have tried several different encounters with different dogs, all supervised, and she reacts the same everytime. We live in a very dog friendly neighborhood and I am terrified that she or another dog may get hurt because of her aggressiveness. She now knows how to jump a 6 foot fence. She uses the horizontal parts of the fence for leverage to climb and jump. I have come home from work and found her in my front lawn, just roaming around. This is becoming a pattern and i don't know what to do. I refuse to lock her up, that is no way a dog should live. We have a doggy door from our gargage to the backyard that my dogs have access. She requires a lot of walks and honestly, I am spoiled by my boy pit who only requires maybe a walk or two a week. Between my husband and I's schedules, we don't have enough time to walk her like she needs in order to burn her energy. She doesn't know many commands. She is slowly learning 'sit' and 'out of the kitchen.' She chews on things, and has ruined many things in my garage. Which, is my fault. I don't get to exercise her enough even though she plays all day with my boy pit. I think she may have been abused at one point because she can be very skittish when you try and correct something she does. What I need is someone who wants a dog that is super loveable, but requires time and attention. She needs a family that can offer that. I hate to admit that I can not provide what she needs. My 3 year old daughter is in love with her. Riley lets her climb all over her and Riley is so good with her. Flash is a fun, frisky, friendly boy found in January 2013, left out in the cold to fend for himself when he was around 8 weeks old, he was all puppy when found. I am guessing he was born approximately middle of November 2012, is very playful, sweet and loving with people. Flash loves to chew on bones, is perimeter trained to stay in the yard without a fence, and loves attention. Jack Russell Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Jack Russell Terrier is a witty, highly intelligent and trainable working dog. Jack Russells are cheeky, entertaining pets. Jack Russells do well with considerate children but do not like to be teased. Jack Russells need a dominant owner experienced in firm obedience training. The Jack Russell Terrier has strong hunting instincts and should not be trusted with small animals. This scrappy Terrier may fight with dogs with which he is not socialized from an early age. Jack Russells can live in an apartment but need plenty of exercise and do best with a yard. Jack Russells can climb and dig under fences, and need to be kept on a leash when walking.
