Rescue Me ID: 16-04-02-00097Richie Cutter (male)

Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! I am looking for a new home. I am 4 years old and a terrier mix weighing about 18 pounds and am some sort. I am currently in foster, where my foster parents learned tons about me. My shelter name was Richie until my fosters saw how much I loved to cut the rug, so they called me: CUTTER! Here's what they have to say: Hello. My name is Cutter/Richie. I know how to sit and semi-stay. I love to jump up and sit in your lap to give you gentle kisses. I have a joy-filled spring to my step! I am very trainable for love and treats. Even the tiniest treat will do. I am gentle to receive. I love to lie on soft things and will share your favorite ... (Read More)chair. Watch out if you leave me alone for too long. I'm good until I'm bored. I'll be your best vacuum so please be careful what you leave in my reach. I love fresh clean water, no dirty puddles for me. Cutter/Ritchie is lovable, gentle, and curious. Good with other dogs if they are kind on the initial meetings, but once provoked, will hold a grudge. He's not afraid of anything. Chickens are too tempting for Cutter. He needs a home with a solid run that he can't dig out of. Needs a home with an individual or family (maybe best with older kids, but don't know for sure,) who can be with him 24/7. He is crate trained and house broken. He likes his crate near the action so he can observe the goings on. Good thing he's small! He's excited on a leash but loves long walks. He can be good on a leash if he's had enough exercise. Exercise and walking make him mellow and snuggly to be in your home and in the crate. He doesn't fuss much, but is a good barker if need be. Cutter listens very well; especially when reinforced with positive feedback. He is very trainable with the right person or family that have the time. Available at the Josephine County Animal Shelter, 1420 Brookside Blvd. 1.5 miles off I-5. in Merlin. Oregon. hours: Monday -Friday 10-4:30pm Saturday 10-4pm. PLEASE READ ENTIRE NOTATIONS BELOW. Shelter number 541 474-5458 for status of availability as some may have been adopted since this post, and about any pending spay/neuter surgery if noted as sometimes spay/neuter appointment may be sooner if a cancellation is available. Those dogs noted as a Great American Shelter Dog are noted as such because we are not sure of the breed and can only give out best guess. See more at: www.savethewhiskers.org Alternate Contact Raleigh@savethewhiskers.org or text 541 660 6578 name of dog. It is always nice if you send an inquiry about a specific adoptable guest via email to tell us about you, your family and other pets, your yard, and most importantly, your expectations of your new family member so we can answer your questions appropriately as best as possible. Please, if you email an inquiry, please understand that these animals are in the shelter for a variety of reasons: Their lives are upside down maybe because owner died, they got lost, were abandoned, owner lost home or had a life event that left their pet in need of a new home. We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! But they need homes and families who will bring them back to knowing what family is! Shelter Phone Number 541 474-5458 Alternate contact: raleigh@savethewhiskers.org General Adoption Fees for Dog: Adult dogs and puppies- $125, Senior dogs 7 and over $50. Veterans are half price / $62.50 with presentation of government issued VA ID. For Josephine County fee includes first year licensing. Please visit the shelter or if need special arrangements for meet and greet please email me. If you have a dog- encourage you to bring also. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography! Rescue Me ID: 16-03-28-00394Jack (male)

Jack Russell    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Healthy, energetic 13 year old Parsons Jack Russell. He's very sweet and loving. He does have some issues with large male dogs, I believe this is because he was attacked when he was young, but lives happily with our female. He has taken to barking out the window. Sometimes he might jump up and bark at children but once he gets to know them he is very lovable! We really don't wish to part with him but are moving to Colorado and can't take him. He also has a non-malignant bump on his left side.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Jack Russell in Oregon
Jack Russell Dogs can make good pets in Oregon if they match your IifestyIe. The Jack Russell Terrier is a witty, highly intelligent and trainable working dog. Jack Russells are cheeky, entertaining pets. Jack Russells do well with considerate children but do not like to be teased. Jack Russells need a dominant owner experienced in firm obedience training. The Jack Russell Terrier has strong hunting instincts and should not be trusted with small animals. This scrappy Terrier may fight with dogs with which he is not socialized from an early age. Jack Russells can live in an apartment but need plenty of exercise and do best with a yard. Jack Russells can climb and dig under fences, and need to be kept on a leash when walking.

The dog Eddie on the T.V. show Frasier is a Jack Russell Terrier. A Jack Russell Terrier saved five New Zealand children from being attacked by two pit bulls in 2007. Jack Russell Terriers are descended from fox terriers bred by Rev. John Russell in England in the early 1800s. Rev. Russell's Terrier, Trump, was depicted in a painting commissioned by Edward VII, Prince of Wales, who was a friend of the parson. Jack Russell Terriers are considered by some to be the most intelligent dog breed.
