|Rescue Me ID: 13-11-29-00031Eliza (female)|
Eliza is one year old, very happy, fairly calm for a Jack Russell. She's up to date on her shots, healthy and gets along well with doge, but chases cats (and birds, and leaves, and plastic bags if they blow past... ) Liza does lots of tricks, and is very, very smart. Loves everyone, will eat just about anything, and thinks kids are just the most wonderful gifts in the world, wiggles with joy when she sees them. Would recommend a family with slightly older children as she is a puppy still and tends to be a little mouthy. We love Liza very much and hate to give her up, but she chases the cats, and has developed some very territorial habits that are not so nice as a result. We can't give her the time she deserves, and that's just not fair to her. I work very long days, and although we exercise her twice a day with nice long walks, she really needs to be in a place where she can run more and play outside in a larger yard. She needs a family that's home, and would be a great farm dog, and a companion pet. We've had her for six months. We got her from a family that had to move, and had not really trained her much. She had no shots, no vet care. (She is all up to date on everything now.) She was living on a farm, and had the run of the place. She's a natural working dog- at five months old, she tried to herd fifty sheep into a barn and almost managed it all by herself. Thankfully, the neighbor trained dogs and was a good sport. She does lots of tricks- does sit, down, begs when you tell her to 'say please', dances, jumps on command, runs up and down the stairs on command to exercise (when it's rainy this is great exercise) and can catch a tossed treat from ten feet away. She responds to some hand signals and is anxious to learn and please. Met a trainer who said she'd be a great agility dog. We contemlated training her as a companion pet to visit nursing homes because she just loves everypne and is so very sweet. Some history: Liza is pure bred, but we don't have her papers. She originally came from an Amish family out in Catlett VA that breeds the dogs for sweet temperament, not show. I may be able to track down the papers, but it wasn't important to us, so we did not get them when we adopted her. She was raised with her sister, a littermate who tended to beat up on her, so she doesn't really care for other Jack Russells or dogs who look like her. Loves big dogs. She is not a loud barky dog, but does barke at the vacuum cleaner! (Very brave.) Has tended to be very submissive except where the cats are concerned. Not good with cats- not mean, just thinks she should chase them. She is a great car dog- loves to ride with you. Just don't feed her right before you leave the house. Loves to chew up stuffed animals- we buy them at local thrift shops for her. She is mostly housebroken, but has begun marking where the cats have been and knows she's not supposed to. Needs a little work still. Sleeps in her crate at night but likes to have her crate near someone when she's sleeping. Does not fuss in the morning when she wakes up, just waits patiently. Equipment: She comes with her crate, collar, leashes, bowls, food and treats. (Less)

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Max is a Jack Russell mix. He is a very patient, loving and energetic dog but due to the abuse he has suffered he is fearful of men and can become very defensive if he feels threatened. He also has separation anxiety. Max requires someone who is deeply affectionate and can attend to him with patience.

Jack Russell Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Jack Russell Terrier is a witty, highly intelligent and trainable working dog. Jack Russells are cheeky, entertaining pets. Jack Russells do well with considerate children but do not like to be teased. Jack Russells need a dominant owner experienced in firm obedience training. The Jack Russell Terrier has strong hunting instincts and should not be trusted with small animals. This scrappy Terrier may fight with dogs with which he is not socialized from an early age. Jack Russells can live in an apartment but need plenty of exercise and do best with a yard. Jack Russells can climb and dig under fences, and need to be kept on a leash when walking.
