The Jack Russell Terrier has strong hunting instincts and should not be trusted with small animals. This scrappy Terrier may fight with dogs with which he is not socialized from an early age. Jack Russells can live in an apartment but need plenty of exercise and do best with a yard. Jack Russells can climb and dig under fences, and need to be kept on a leash when walking.

Jack Russell Trivia: The dog Eddie on the T.V. show Frasier is a Jack Russell Terrier. Jack Russell Terriers are descended from fox terriers bred by Rev. John Russell in England in the early 1800s. Jack Russell Terriers are considered by some to be the most intelligent dog breed.
